SURPRISE!! Vince lets of a popper while we weren't expecting it... Birthday cake for Sam (but she really got it for Van, he blew the candles out).

Down the foreshore, we have been going to the jetty again due to the mozzies.

A nice photo of Van and Aunty Sam.

A rare photo of us.

The Pokes, we are just missing Sam in the pic!

Happy Birthday Sam!!!

26th of Dec, Boxing Day - but more importantly, Sam's birthday. We got oursleves up nice and early thanks to Van and set out to find a place to take Sam for breakfast. We didn't have to try very hard, The Boatshed was open and served us very efficiently with a smile and a yummy brekky. We picked up a couple of Hermits on the way (hehe - Renee and Ant). Sam and I may hit the shops and go to the movies a little later while the boys stay at home and babysit while drinking and watching the cricket.... Gotta love the Xmas holis...

Sam, Van, Vin, Nee and Antman.

'Tis the Season to be Jolly...

Merry Xmas all! Hoping this post finds you all well fed, happy and healthy! We are thinking of you all at Xmas time and wishing we could be in a million places all at once to be with everyone... In reality however, we are in Darwin. It was a very nice Xmas. Relaxed and quiet! Sam (Vince's sister), flew up from Perth on Xmas Eve to join us for the week. Quick drop ins and prezzies from Kel, Ed and Nick in the morning. Then Renee, Ant, Kerry and Roger spent the afternoon with us by the pool. Everybody contributed to the day and we had a feast (which in true Xmas spirit will probably last us for the week).
Vance had a lovely day too with his gifts, all the people and the attention! Thanks everyone for the gifts for Van (and us) - very muchly appreciated! The main thing was that we spent the day with loved ones and had a good time! Hope you all did too!
Thanks to Kez who was motivated enough to take a few happy snaps of the day!

Ho Ho Ho!

Borumba Dam..

We went out to Borumba Dam this morning to take the boat (and Van) out. We were a little apprehensive as Van hasn't really been out on a boat for an extended period of time (besides the houseboat). Anyway, it was no worries. The dam was lovely, we ran about for a bit, looked around and had a swim. Van had no problems embracing the boating lifestyle as you can see from the photos...

Fraser Island...

I'm getting a little tardy and slack with my posts. Time is sometimes better spent sleeping. But I have a little time now to quickly say that we did a day trip to Fraser Island. I had never been there and I thought it was lots of 4WDing fun and beautiful. Unlike anything I've ever seen before. It was pretty busy really but intend to spend at least a couple of weeks there in the future. If you get the chance - do it!!
Boarding the barge from Inskip point.

Some info about the dingos.
Can't remember the name of this place - started with "B".

A little fenced in picnic area where people can eat in safety.

Lake McKensie - a beautiful (but popular) lake, this photo doesn't do it justice.

Inskip Beach

We went down passed Rainbow Beach to a place called Inskip Point? Beach? I dunno really?... This is a nice little area where people choose to camp or catch the ferry to Fraser Island. We just went down for the morning. It was a lovely day, around 30 degrees - not too windy when we arrived. Van had a great time in a little pool and in the waves.

Braving the waves with Pops.

Gotta Love Grandparents!!

We had a great day today. An early start as usual, picking strawberries and playing in the sandpit. Off to the markets for local produce. Watched the Wallabies get beaten by the Scots - very disappointing. Then Mum and Dad took Van down to an area called Boreen Point at Lake Cootharaba for the afternoon. They had a lovely time - Van had a little nap in the car (making life easier for everyone in the long run) and then they spent a fair bit of time in the water before coming home. I was very lucky indeed to spend the afternoon reading, sleeping, watching TV and I made some ANZAC biscuits too. Very relaxing. Once they got home we tagged and I took Lizzi, Vance and myself for a walk. We spent the late arvo in the garden.. Mum decided to get the bike out - here are a few pics.

Nana Jean and Van on the bike in the backyard.

Note that Van's not actually sitting in a child's bike seat, this is how they carry their young in Gympie. When on the roads they tie them down with some okky straps.

Water Sports...

It seems we went from one source of water to the next yesterday.. We also went to the river (Widgee Crossing 5 min from home), hung out in the little wading pool at Mum and Dad's and ended up down in Tin Can Bay (Mum and I went dragon boat racing while Van, Pops and Lizzi walked along the beach - unfortunately we didn't get any photos of this though).

Van has learnt how to force a smile.

Slippery Slide!

Pops and Van on the slippery slide!! After a bumpy start Van got to love the slide. It was all fun and games until the sun came out warming the bits of the slide not watered.

Down the slide..

Time to pack away..

Qld Trip!!

Well, Van and I are in Qld visiting Mum and Dad for a few weeks. Bit of an impulsive decision, one that was driven by the unrelenting humidity in Darwin (and my brain melting). I've taken some photos to appease Vince, and there will be alot going on to keep him informed.. So here are the beginnings of many!! It's not even midday yet and we've done so much!! The mornings are long when they start at 5am!! It's great having all the space at Mum and Dads for Van to roam.. We are going camping next week too which should be a hoot!!

Looks like Mum is lining Van up for a practise hit.

New Book!

Hi all. My ABC Animals is finally finished and available for purchase!
Five years in the making and a lot of time, blood, sweat and tears and now it is done. What originally started in Japan as a little project to help students learn English has evolved into a more general kid's book, with more polished illustrations and a more professional final product.
At the moment, it can be purchased at Blurb - a print-on-demand website (someone orders a product and they print it as required). I just add my mark-up to their manufacturing price (I stand to make about $2 from each book sold. Like my t-shirts, I'm not going to become a millionaire overnight).
Anyway, if you're interested, head over to the site and check it out.

Big thanks to everyone who helped me out, through encouragement, printing, technical advice, and/or proof-reading. You know who you are. Thank you!

Kite fun..

More beach action. We've been taking the kites down to the beach as well. Vance has a lot of fun holding the kite, letting it go (and watching Daddy run) and just generally trying to boss everyone around. The beach is still the best place for a Friday afternoon, you are pretty much always guaranteed a breeze. Yay!
Long shot, the boys and the kite.

Sunday Arvo Foreshore

This afternoon we went down to the foreshore at Nightcliff. As you probably noticed, it's one of our favourite spots to go to and catch the breeze and chill out. It also gets Vance out of the house, which is good when we don't feel like going for a swim. Taking him to the park is too hot in the afternoon, and going to an air conditioned environment tends to be an expensive, crowded, and time-killing nightmare (Casuarina Shopping Centre).

Anyway, as usual, there was a beautiful breeze and the tide was almost at it's highest (6.5m). Vance enjoyed the spray and we enjoyed the fresh air.

And here is a video. He likes watching hermit crabs but not getting too close! We think he prefers throwing rocks and jumping off rocks :)
