Vik Visit...

Vikki visited us in Darwin for a week during the holidays. Her first time to Darwin and first time to meet Van.. Both were a success with Van taking an enthusiastic shining to Vik, and Vik enjoying the dry season in Darwin.

We had a lot of fun - Vik and I haven't seen each other for about 3 years now and it was nice that she came to Darwin. We weren't crazy and kept the visit low key saving the big touristy things for another time. We did manage to get in many beach jaunts and walks, hung out by the pool (beacause it was warm according to Vik), did some fishing (unfortunately we didn't catch anything but saw lots of wildlife and had some adventures), went to the markets, watched a few DVDs and generally caught up and looked after Vance.
A most enjoyable visit and we all had a great time. Sad to say goodbye but all good things must come to an end. Thanks Vik. We all miss you. XXX
(Between the two of us we didn't remember the camera a lot of the time. Here are a few snaps from down the beach)

Dry Season Beach Action..

It's great to be on holidays and head down the beach in the morning. We caught the high tide and Van ran himself ragged.

Gunlom Trip

On Thursday we decided to brave the tourists and lack of sleep and head out camping. Jodi is on school holidays at the moment so we took the choice to get away for a couple of days to Gunlom Falls in Kakadu National Park. We met up with friends (Danielle & Dennis, and their kids Dylan & Tristan, and niece Amy) for two days of relaxing around the campfire.

Vance was a lot better this time around - it helped having the other guys with us to pass Vance around to, and he also enjoyed the company of the other kids with us. He still fought sleep as hard as he could, but collectively we wore him down until he no choice but to sleep from exhaustion. He still woke up before sunrise which was pretty hard but overall it was better...

The park is about 3.5 hours South of Darwin and consists of a basic campground, high waterfall with a large pool at the base, and a series of pools above the falls. We walked up to the top on the second day - it was only a kilometre round trip but it was very steep and rocky- lots of fun with Van on my shoulders or in my arms. Anyway, we made it and the views were spectacular and the pools nice to swim in - it was worthwhile.

It was a good trip: good to get away, good to spend time with Danielle and Dennis, good to sit around a campfire (it was under 15 degrees overnight - the jeans and jumpers were out!), and good to spend some quality time with the family relaxing.
