Holiday Time!

Vin, Van and I are in Gympie staying with Mum (and Dad but he's left now) for about a month. For the first 4 days we were on a houseboat in the Sandy Strait (out from Tin Can Bay). Unfortunately the weather acted up a bit, but it just meant that our movement was limited. We still had a great time. Caught plenty of crabs (Muddies and Blue Swimmers), drank plenty and enjoyed the local beaches. It was fun running out on the tender to different places for a swim and a bit of live bait collection. Van got used to it after a while, besides very early mornings he was quite well behaved. Here are some pics....

DIY goth baby

This is what happens when an 18-month old chews and sucks on the nib of a black marker (non-toxic thankfully). I hope he's not going to be an "emo" when he grows up :(
He is obsessed with markers (textas) at the moment - he will draw a little, but mostly enjoys taking the lids off and throwing them around the loungeroom.

Hello? This is Vance calling!

Vance has found new fascination with the phone. He is trying to talk in to it now -not just randomly press buttons.

As promised, we finally got some footage of Vance in the pool. It's about 3'45" long so be patient!

Vance "Talking" more

Van is now 18 months old. He is 87 cm tall. He runs, climbs and attempts to communicate by pointing and mimicking.

Here is another video of him doing do just that - he was pretty tired but perked up for the camera:

We will get some footage of him in the pool soon!

Vance "Talking"

Another video clip for y'all. When Van wakes up he usually lies in his cot blabbering away. When he gets bored and we don't come in fast enough he starts calling out trying to say, "Hello?", and other question-like phrases. Watch the vid to see what we mean...

Not very exciting to those without kids (probably even to those with kids)...

Hardy's Lagoon

I love fishing. I've been out with John quite a few times. It's good - we've been to various spots around the place, but Hardy's has been our recent favourite. We went out there with Vik (and forgot the camera), and same with Ben. I finally remembered to take the camera today with Rhiannon. We headed out at 5am and got stuck into it. John actually caught a Barra this time round (68cm) which was pretty exciting. We always manage to drink plenty of beer though and have an outstanding time regardless of the lack of fish caught. Here are some pics.... Thanks to John and an honourable mention for Vin and Van......

Love is in the air....

Hi all. I hope that from the title of this post that you now have the old classic song stuck in your head. Mission complete..

On the 5th of October, Vince and I went on a harbour cruise for my birthday. It was a very civilised and enjoyable evening on the Alfred Noble vessel which includes a four course meal with a full bar and table service. It was a very relaxing night as Vance was at home being looked after by our beautiful neighbour Julie.

We moored in at the Wharf and decided to stay back and have a drink or two to wait for the taxi rush to pass. It was at this time that Vince presented me with a small gift that he had bought in Broome and proposed to me! I guess I was pretty speechless (that's twice in my life - both times with Vince). It's a beautiful ring - a black pearl with a small diamond on a silver band. Of course I said yes :) No date (not even year) set yet but we'll let you know once we work it out! Here's the ring from a couple of different angles:

Darryn and Tuyen..

Congratulations to my brother Darryn and Tuyen on their marriage! They had a cosy gathering of family and close friends last Thursday at the ceremony and then went on to a restuarant for a delightful dinner. Unfortunately Dad and I couldn't make it, but Mum and Gran represented us all. I am very happy for the married couple and wish them a happy life together. Love you Daz - nice one!! Here are some photos that Mum has sent on to me.

The good looking couple. Darryn (who scrubs up very nicely) and Tuyen (who looks gorgeous in her traditional Vietnamese ceremony garment).

Broome Days 3, 4 & 5 (Camel Toes and Footy)

My sister Sam arrived on Thursday and we spent another evening down the beach, having a BBQ and taking in the sunset. We went down past Cable Beach this time. This is where they take the famous camel trains loaded with tourists. We also got a chance to try out Van's new kite.

Dad, Vance, Carolyn & Vince with the new kite in the background.

Sam and Vance checking out the camels.

Another view of the camel train.

On Saturday it was the AFL (or GayFL - depending on which camp you're from [no pun intended]) Grand Final. Dad is an avid Geelong supporter so we had to watch it. The rest of us were going for Hawthorn just to annoy him mainly, but also so we'd get a good game. As it turned out Hawthorn were the better team on the day so that was good!
Vance with Granddad - a disappointed supporter. Looks like Van is giving the noose signal too!

Water Pool

Second video from the beach in Broome. Here we stumbled across a little pool someone had made. Vance tried walking through it but it was deeper than he thought. He enjoyed falling over so much he turned around and went back to do it again... and again... and again...

Tennis Ball

Here's a video from Day 2 at the beach. Vance loved throwing and chasing a tennis ball in the shallows. He kept falling over or getting knocked over by the little waves but kept coming back for more!

Broome Day 2

Hi all. Just a couple of quick pics from our second day here in Broome. It was Dad's birthday today!

We went down to Cable Beach again this evening. Lovely spot.

Vance and I are in Broome for a week. We came to have a break from Darwin, to visit Dad for his birthday, and to see Dad and Carolyn before they leave Broome for good at the end of the year.
The trip from Darwin is pretty nice - 13/4 hours on the plane. Vance was pretty good and only started to grizzle on our descent into Broome.

We had a quiet afternoon yesterday, adjusting to the heat and letting Van check out the place - while we rearranged stuff out of his reach...

Up nice and early today - sun up at about 5.30am - Van up at about 5.35am...

Relaxed and went to one of the famous beaches this afternoon. It was good to see white sand and clear blue water again! He loved running around in the nude for a couple of hours, throwing the tennis ball for the dog, splashing in the water, demolishing Dad's sandcastle, and munching on watermelon. Enough rambling - here are some photos:

Vance with his new Tonka truck, watching Granddad build a sandcastle.

Enjoying the expanse of white sand.

Van's table and chair...

Hello Van fans. I know there are a few of you out there and I'm sorry we've neglected our blogspot of late. Here are some photos of Van enjoying his new table and chairs. He now mostly sits at his table on his chair to eat his meals.

Cheeky monkey!!

What a poser!?!

The latest.....

Had a bit of a surprise this week. Marty has some work in Darwin for about a month, so we've caught up with him this weekend and taken him out to Ant and Nee's place for a lovely dinner!!
The block is looking great with their bathroom taking shape! They've done the paving and Nee's created their bathroom vanity unit from a cable spool. Looks awesome! Here are some happy snaps.

The temporary shower area soon to be moved into the new bathroom area.

Renee's piece of art work!! The taps have been mounted on their own black too.. Not to forget the push botton plug!!!

Antman and Martymus. Happy to be back in each other's arms again.

Van Visits...

Young Van man is quite popular! Nana Jean and Aunty Sam have just returned to their homes from a lovely visit.. We were all very busy with Van making sure everyone woke up nice and early.. Both Sam and Mum had busy agendas too fitting in as much as they could. A wedding, the Darwin Cup, Sam went out to Kakadu and Mum did the rounds of all the relies and friends. Not to forget all babysitting and hands free time Vince and I got! Everyone was happy! Here are just a few photos....

Block Update...

Last night Sam (Vince's sister), Vin, Van and I went down to Ant and Nee's block to catch up. We've all been busy and haven't seen each other in a while, so we were quite surprised to see the amount of progress they've made!!

The shed roof's up!

The bathroom has been updated with undercover area and running water from an actual shower!! Also the water tank is in!

Ant had just finished angle grinding out the side of one of the containers, or now as they refer to it as 'The Sound Shell'. Nice protected little area in there.

My kind of living area.

Aunty Sam and Van playing with the birds.

Look at that water pressure!!!! The kitchen sink.

Gotta get the token baby shot in there somewhere!!

Father and Son fire time.
