Surprise Baby Shower

Well - I was most surprised to find out yesterday that Danielle and Vince had organised a surprise baby shower for me!! I thought I'd be the last person in the world to have a baby shower - but there you go! If That's Incredible was still on TV, my baby shower would be featured (does anyone remember that show? It used to freak me out as a kid)! Do I sound surprised? Well, I think I still am!

So thanks to Danielle, Dennis, Vince, Ant, Renee, Anita, Phillipa, Tina, Sally, and Rob for making it a memorable and special day for me and the baby.. I'm touched (pregnancy has made me a real softy at times!)..
While I'm being all warm and fuzzy I'd also like to thank all the people who've been so kind as to give me plenty of gifts (work mates and parents of students) and lots of advice (all sorts of random people).. Also all the great support I've had from family, friends and especially Vince has made my pregnancy a loving experience...
Gush, gush, gush.
Now we've just gotta give birth to this little bundle of joy and see it in the flesh.. 3 weeks and counting...

More Dragonflies

They only come out in the morning or late afternoon when the wind isn't blowing too hard. In this shot they're all facing the same direction, waiting for some something to happen - the perfect mate to come along, perfect breeze to blow them somewhere else, or just sunning their wings? Could probably find out, but we're happy for now just watching them from our balcony...

Happy Easter!

Clueless rabbit whipped up in Illustrator, just in time for Easter...

Bring On The Dry

The last couple of days the weather has started to change. (sorry - it's another weather-related post...) The monsoon has pretty much fizzled out. There wasn't much rain or storms to speak of this year. Bit of a shame, as we all endured the bloody build-up, and the rains are our well-earnt reward for putting up with 35 degree days and 90% humidity.
Anyway, a sure sign that the Dry season is upon us is the emergence of thousands of dragonflies. They've been everywhere the last couple of days. Then they all die and the weather is perfect!

This shot was taken from our balcony. Every new palm frond around has a solitary dragonfly perched on the very end.

Freaky Flowers

Hi everybody!! Just thought I'd share a few photo's of some local flowers springing up in our garden. The weather seems to be shifting toward the dry season now (slowly) and we are noticing some changes in our garden . It's a shared garden in a unit block - but Vince and I like to do some work as it's fun and makes the place look purdy. We also get reimbursed by the Body Corporate for any purchases we make - so that's kind of cool too (we get to experiment with all sorts of plants before we do our own garden)!! Even though this wet season has been a bit soft - the greenerie is still going crazy and the place is incredibly lush! Gotta love the tropics! Looking forward to the dry season though for some cool weather and fun in the sun!! Hope you are all well!!!

This is a Travellers Palm next to our pool in our Unit block. You can get a feel for its size in comparison to the units. In the middle you can see the beginnnings of a flower.

Close up of the flower. I'm not sure if it's going to sprout white flowers from the sheaths or not?.. I did a "google" search but couldn't get an exact match of a mature flower.. We'll just have to watch and wait!!

The same day I also noticed that our Caladium also had a different sprout. It doesn't look like a new leaf so I took a photo to keep an eye on it too.. After another "google" search, it looks like these develop into a bulbous (lily) type flower.. I've never seen one flower before and will take more pics as it opens.
